still don’t like this way of making coffee, the water should press through the coffee to get a great flavor though

Thanks for the tips Jason, I took out my old Ikea French press this morning and followed your tutorial. I used beans from Costco/Kirkland, which are supposedly from Starbucks…anyway, it turned out beautiful!

Why a French press, out of curiosity? Is this a personal preference? Or is it like difference between drip brewing and steeping tea, which is huge?

French Press makes coffee taste more awakened and bright. But I still love brewing as normal, too. #kopiluwak

Jason, thanks for the tutorial. I had not heard of heating the plunger in hot water before, but it makes a lot of sense.

Thanks for the helpful tips! I’ve used a French press for tea and noticed the flavor is always better. I imagine the same is true for coffee.

I’ve used French Press off and on for years, when I have that leisurely time to make and enjoy a great cup of coffee.

I use this method on the weekends when I have extra time, or go camping, which is really cool. The french press coffee is much brighter because a normal coffee machine never heats the water to an optimal temperature. I always know a five star restaurant because that is how they give me my coffee. A french press and a pound of coarse ground french roast is a perfect holiday gift.

Have you ever tried the AeroPress? It is a french press of sorts but instead of the traditional metal strainer it uses a plastic cylindar to push thru the coffee. I have been using an espresso grind and it is the smoothest coffee I have ever made. It says you can make 1-4 cups but I think it’s really only good for 1-2. I make a cup this way every morning and have not enjoyed my coffee so much in a long time. I still use my traditional french press when I have guests and I am trying to make more at one time.

French Press is the best way to get the true flavor of the coffee you are drinking. If you’re drinking crappy coffee don’t bother.

French Press is good, but for every day I prefer percolated coffee.

Since my espresso equipment has died, I use a frenchpress for making my coffee. A totally other taste then an espresso. Great for really tasting your coffee!
Pro’s also use this method when they are cupping (but without the ‘press’).
With some coffees I prefer to remove the crema first, before pressing.

BTW using a medal spoon in the glass can and will cause it to explode on you (pressure). Had someone do this to me at work, not a good time.
