How to do a Coffee Taste (Part 1)

Bringing Out Flavor

There is one more thing I would like to mention. It is also highly beneficial to pair your coffee with food that will help bring out a particular flavor in the coffee. For instance if you notice a berry flavor in the coffee pair it with blackberries or a blueberry scone. First taste the coffee without the pairing then add it into the mix. Do you notice it complements the coffee or contrasts it’s flavor? If your pairing brings a flavor more to the surface then you have picked a great pairing. Mess around and select “off the wall” stuff to pair next to your coffee’s.

Remember

It’s Easy! – All you need is:

1) A Nose
2) A Mouth/Tongue &
3) A French Press or a Clover if you are so lucky. :)

And having friends to share it will does not hurt either because…

Coffee is the excuse but friends and good conversation is the reason. – or something like that =)

What would you suggest to “cleanse the palate” between coffee tastings?

Thanks for this video. What you do is incredibly helpful to a coffee ignoramus like me. Had never even thought about the proper way to taste coffee until I watched this. Thanks!

  13. Hi Jason,

I really liked how you explained tasting so simply and love the idea that you’re going to go out and do tastings. I think this will help consumers understand what the true flavors of coffee are and feel like they are a part of the “coffee geeks.”

As always, keep up the great videos.
