I’ve been watching Gary’s videos for over a year now, so I knew most of what he was going to say in the book. However, there’s so much more in the book and it’s much better organized in the videos. I actually pre-ordered the book last summer because Gary reached out to me via twitter when I said I hadn’t bought the book. That alone sold me on it.

QOTD – Is the difference that the videos are now in HD? The quality seems a little bit better, but it’s darker and does pause to load from time to time.

@Mike from Daily Shot Of Coffee – ya I have noticed the pausing and I am currently working with Viddler to get that resolved.

Jason,
QOTD: You changed the opening theme “music” for your reviews.

Love the site keep up the great work!

Nice Review, But What I Wonder Is With All The Hype Of JBM U Would Think It As Being An A+ Rated Coffee, Because I Custom Roast I Wonder If The Particular Bean Was Roasted To It’s Potential? Or Better Yet There R Only A Few Farms That Produce JBM I Wonder How All That Goes Into Play 4 A Coffee Like JBM. Not Critiquing Just Really Interested In What Makes A Bean The Ultimate.. c|_|

QOTD
I Have To Agree I’ve Noticed More Pausing In The Videos

@Jason Coffee – It might just be my internet connection. I have the fastest broadband I can get, but that doesn’t always mean that it is! I do love the quality of the HD videos though.

Hi Jason,
I’m a relatively new viewer of CCN, but I think the difference is that you are now using after effects or another editing program that allows you to put filters on your video podcasts. (this would explain the cool vignette look on this episode above.)

am i close or way off?

Another killer video Coffee! Your videos are so entertaining. You have a lot of charisma. Coffee and charisma–great combination!

QOTD: I think you have better video interface with your blog.

Jason, how important to you is the freshness of the beans? I get so disappointed when I buy coffee beans and there isn’t a roasted-on date. Great beans seem to sour after a few weeks and it doesn’t matter how good they were in the beginning. Just wanted to know your take on bean freshness.

It is interesting how different the same type of coffee can taste when it is roasted to a different level. It sounds like this JBM was roasted a little darker than your typical roast review.

qotd? It wouldn’t be the camera angle and the apparently new table (as well as the absence of your french press on the table with the cup and the bag of beans) would it?

qotd? One more “guess” would be that you are using a new camera to record the videos.

@JL Zoeckler – Bean freshness is sooooo important, I am right there with you. I too look for the roasted on date and the expiration date. The one way valve that some coffee companies use for freshness do an amazing job of keeping the coffee fresh for extended periods of time as long as it is bagged within a short time period after roasting. They let the carbon dioxide out while not allowing any oxygen in and oxygen is the greatest flavor killer to coffee. Great question!

qotd? Jason, are you referring to the imbedded ads and markers in the time bar of the video allowing you to provide links and other information as the video rolls?

QOTD — I’ve noticed the HD Video and the vignette effect, and for awhile the “Coffee Cup News” logo at the top of the site was more “hand drawn” looking. And I love the fact that you have been doing more french press tastings lately; they are definitely my favorite.

so this is a wild guess, but did you get a flipcam to record your podcasts? Is that what’s new w/ coffeecupnews? also, I noticed that i can watch your show on full screen and it’s very clear with little pixelation. The titles you’re using seem to be more updated. It definitely looks like you’re using final cut pro and the title program for a mac. just a few guesses…hopefully close enough to score the gift card! :)
