I was wondering if any of you home roasters have experienced cupping coffee? If not, you should. Because this will help you distinguish the flavor notes better by comparing various coffee from just roasted to cooled completly. It will also help you make better decisions as to which green beans to buy. In turn, make you a better roaster.

Check local roasters to see if they offer public cuppings, if not, Then be weary of them.

That's how cafe's pick and chose what coffee to buy. It's basically tasting a few coffees side by side, by region to compare them on the same level.

I would be interested to hear who has done this as well. Neil?

Somehow I previously missed this post.  I have not done a cupping personally.  I am not even really aware of any local roasters; although I am sure there are some.  The suppliers from whom I purchase green beans personally cup each of the coffees they sell.  When I go to buy beans it is the cupping notes that I rely upon to help me determine what I should buy.  I may have to consider finding a local roaster though, because that is the only way I am going to be able to cup and therefore learn the various nuances of the flavor profiles of each coffee and I would really like to start experimenting with blends.

Thanks for the heads-up Jennifer.
