I thought I would start this topic off.  If there is one already posted, please point it out to me I'd be happy to continue it there.

I have a question for everyone that uses a coffee press.  What is your coffee to water ratio?  Do you just use a tablespoon scoop per so much water or weigh your coffee and  water for a more precise measure?  If so, what do you use coffee to water?

Cheers, Guy

Checked in to day and this topic has had 84 views, but not one response … well not one other than this one.  Here is a copy of a post I made at another forum.  I think I'll post it to all the coffee forums I read to see what I get for answers.  And just to let you know, no one has replied to the other one either.  Starting to wonder why Confused

I finally picked up a kitchen scale. And I figured I might as well use it for something good. I checked out what would be the right coffee to water for my coffee press. What did I find, do you ask? A couple of sources use 60 to 70 grams of coffee to one litre of water. Ok. Not a problem. I have a scale now. I can measure that out.

Holy sh**!!!! [Image Can Not Be Found] I had no idea how much coffee that really is. In all honesty, it's about twice as much as I regularly use in my coffee press. I was using 2 level tablespoons per 6 ounces of water. That would give me about 10 level tablespoons for my 32 ounce / 1 liter coffee press. I can tell you that 10 level tablespoons isn't close to 60 to 70 grams of coffee.

The Kona coffee I made this morning was literally rocketfuel. I had to try it the way it was suggested. I mean, the guys/gals at Square Mile aren't wrong about this sort of thing … are they? I did find similar coffee to water ratios from other sources.

But, jeez … wow!!! [Image Can Not Be Found] That's some powerful coffee it made. [Image Can Not Be Found]

So here's my query, what do you all measure out on a scale for your coffee? Press would be nice for a more direct comparison, but I'm good to compare with any coffee to water ratio you're finding that works our really well.

Lemme know.

I'm not sure where Jason has gone, or all the content. Hence the lack of response.

I use the 60g/L rule when first trying a coffee (eg 12g/200mls in a Hario V60) and adjust to taste accordingly

Which Square Mile coffee are you currently brewing and what brew method (French Press/Pourover/Woodneck etc)?

Hey Matt and Glenn.  Pleased to see a couple of posts.  Smile

I do get over to coffeegeek.com regularly and do peruse the forums.  There is a lot of good info there as well.  I did see several posts going along with the 60 grams per litre there as well.

I did not mean to say I was brewing Square Mile coffee.  I just found the coffee ratio of 60 grams per litre on their site.  I'll check out the forums you mention, Glenn.  Always good to read some info somewhere else.  That's why I hang out at several places.

Best of the Holiday Season to everyone.

Cheers, Guy
