@KibblesPlace you betcha!  Sniffed, sipped & swished, then swallowed! LOL!  and I definitely appreciated having the latte as a chaser.  Not that the espresso was bad, it was just… stronger… than I'm used to. Laugh

Go for an espresso, c'mon KibblesPlace, if i can do it you can too!! Wink

I still think the tiny little mug made me feel like I was having a pretend tea party with my little girl (who is 18 and going to college this fall.)

Now, I have to decide what to do next!  More Latte and Espresso?  Maybe that pour-over Neil recommended.

@Jerry, Agh, I dunno.  I'll have it in an Americano, a RedEye and of course a latte but I don't know if I could have it straight.  Is it okay to add sugar to it?  I have such a sweet tooth, I'd have to have a donut chaser!

@KibblesPlace I consider a donut chaser a brilliant idea!  I personally went with the aforementioned blackberry scone.  I would avoid anything sweet before you drink it though, so don't nibble while you wait…

Personally, I'm considering asking for Espresso con Panna.  That has whipped cream, but I've found that most places have whipped sugar/oil rather than true whipped cream, so will ask before requesting.

The Cafe Breve sounds good too… so many options!  I never knew coffe was so varied (j/k, I did know… just didn't think about it in that way before!)

I suppose you could add sugar, but frankly, it's such a tiny amount of coffee that I doubt the sugar would do you much good… it was in and down before I could even consider it needing sweetner.

But I must say, I am definitely a fan of espresso now. onclick=

@Kibblesplace I personally can do it either way BUT I think latte is a great chaser for espresso because it is so creamy but still has the espresso taste that you just had in your mouth. That said I think it's great both to help you get used to enjoying great espresso and to help you palette comprehend what the true essence of a latte is. Great question!

@Jerry, I have also considered an espresso con panna.  I was looking at Starbucks' online drink menu, and that is the one that caught my eye.  Would Sbux be a good location to try it?  Confused

Way to go Jerry. You just have to remember how hot an espresso can be. The last shot I pulled I got busy talking and did drink it just like a shot. I'd like to say it felt warm and fuzzy all the way down, but burning hot would be more accurate.

The espresso con panna may be a good choice. I am from Wisconsin (America's Dairyland) and everything goes better with butter or cream. Just sayin'

Kibbles, I think the issue is one of intensity of flavor.  If you are not used to it it may put you off. I'm with Jason, you may have to "build up" to straight espresso, but once you have acquired the taste there is nothing like it.  I would just say, if it seems to strong, take a step back, add a little something, then, later try it again. Just don't let a bad experience (either something that you just don't prefer, or a bad preparation at a bad shop) put you off from trying it.

I think that is the concern most of us have who truly enjoy more intense coffee preparations. We don't want misconceptions or one bad experience to cause someone to stop experimenting with new coffees and new coffee preparation methods. Espresso may not be your "cup of tea" (pardon the reference), but let your own palate decide after you have given it the best espresso shot available.

Also, I don't think Sbux would be a bad place to try your espresso con panna, but it may not be the best place either if you have a good independent coffee shop in your area.

Jerry, an Americano might be another good alternative.

Someone needs to invent a temperature-color-coded Demitasse for the rash among us…  Wink  "warm and fuzzy"! LOL!

(see, I now know what those tiny little cups are called, thanks DailyDemitasse!)

I'll give an americano a shot next week, or possibly later this week at Chocolate Fish and
let you know what I think.  I broke down and took the boy-child through
McD's this morning, sometimes expediency beats flavor. Laugh

Ok, now that I'm back from vacation and it's been almost a week
(ugh!)  I'm going to try some new places!  This week, results been
rather disappointing…

A local place that has received top
reviews on Yelp yielded a very bitter and burnt tasing latte…  Loved
the shop, and the owner was fantastic — so I may give it another shot
and try something else. Frown

Another local place that just opened (and is not yet in Yelp) gave me a mediocre cup of drip coffee… Confused

…and lastly, (on the upside!) a buddy of mine brought me a latte from Chocolate Fish!

YUM! Laugh

So I guess I'd consider myself about even now :-)

Hi All,

Way to go man! If his adventures inspired you as much as it did me to go out and get some coffee raise your hands! :)

Actually, I would suggest you all to check out http://www.mojofiend.com. Buy 4 free coffees anywhere in the city (and i found out they mean ANYWHERE) and get the 5th free at Blue Bottle, Ritual, etc.

Once again, Jerry you're the man! :D
