A long-standing debate on espresso blends vs. single origins, have you had any single origins to rave about?  Anything that ranks with the best known, best scoring blends?

I have found both be good. I have been going to a cool coffee shop in Independence Missouri called Benettis that does great single orgin espresso shots!

Trees Organic in Vancouver does a Mexican S.O. (single origin) as the house espresso.  It's very good, but 49th Parallel's Epic Espresso, Intelligentia's Black Cat and others seem more reliable/repeatable, … not as hit & miss.  I am not anti-SO, though – always willing to try a new one.

I haven't tried too many single origin espresso. I prefer a balance of brightness, acidity, etc. in a blend. If I want a S.O., I will brew it whatever method brings out its best potential of flavors and aroma. If that happens to be as espresso. That's how I'll drink it.

Although, if you're still building your palette and appreciation for coffee, I recommend sticking to blends for espresso because certain characteristics of a coffee as single origin can be a bit overwhelming.

@coffeewriter interesting. I just love how you get the fullness of flavor from the SOs from a shot of espresso, really helps train my palate to recognize difference nuances that I might not notice if it were brewed as drip.

This isn't about which is better, it's about personal preferance.
