Caffe Americano Question - Coffee Drinks - Coffee Forum

I depends on how many shots of espresso are in the Americano. If we compare both in the same size say 16 oz here are some basic results:

Americano: 3 shots x 75mg per shot = 225 mg of caffeine
: 4 shots x 75mg per shot = 300 mg of caffeine

Drip Coffee: 16 oz = 320 mg of caffeine

This will vary by about 50 mg on both the shots and the drip coffee but as you can see drip coffee will usually have more caffeine unless enough shots are added to the Americano. In any case if you want a punch of caffeine try a "red eye" – a cup of coffee w/ an espresso shot.
