OurCoffeeBarn does have some really great deals. I have had some of their roasted coffee (I bought a pound when I was there on vacation a year ago) and it is great coffee. I also buy much of my supply of green coffee from them. Like you said, it’s good to know that the sponsors offer great coffee products.

qotd? I think the hottest I remember it being where I live is 102, but I have been in Nevada when it was 118.

WOW 118!!! I am getting sunburned just thinking about that. What are your top 3 green coffees from OCB so far?

I immediately recognized that golden bag from Our Coffee Barn! I think there are some amazing deals there. I loved the Brazil Serra Negra, it’s my absolute favorite right now. I sorta like the Burundi Bwayi too, and the Sumatra Mandehling is my second favorite.

There is one caveat though: when I received my coffee via UPS, I smelled coffee through the box. Apparently, the vacuum seal was burst on two out of five bags. They were sitting around, vulnerable to the air, for probably three days. I’m not sure how much of an effect they have on beans, but it certainly can’t be beneficial.

I hope this isn’t a common occurrence. I’ve only ordered from them once, and the prices beckon my repeat business, so perhaps it was only a one-time mistake. I get the feeling that you can’t really keep the beans in the bag if you want to keep them super fresh, but then again, I don’t know any bags that you can do that with. I move them straight away into my glass jars.

Other than that, I personally love the idea that they’re a family business who still handwrites a cheerful “Thanks!” on the packing slip!

The beans should be consumed a maximum of 2 weeks after roasting for optimal flavor. I had 5 bags shipped from them and all arrived with great condition. What is your favorite coffee from Our Coffee Barn so far?

I would have to say that the Brazil Serra Negra is my absolute favorite: its low acidity and chocolaty/cherry undertones in the finish make it such a pleasure to drink! Of course, I’m actually a coffee newbie so I don’t know if my use of coffee talk is quite right, but in laymen’s terms, it tastes good black without puckering up your tongue or giving you a sore stomach :D

I’m definitely going to bookmark them for my future purchases (still going through a bunch of their coffee). I’m way past the two week mark hehe. Glad to hear that yours shipped fine, I’m guessing it’s just a rare screw-up. I’m not going to let that affect my decision to take advantage of their great prices!

You know a coffee is great when it’s complex like that. I was just surprised you didn’t get any citrus notes. Not sure if that’s a good or bad thing. Maybe they just roasted it differently to bring out other flavor profile? I”d buy some just to find out for myself.

qotd- It’s been staying in the low 100′s consistently. Plus the humidity is insane. I’m not used to it being higher than 95ish.
