Bikini Baristas in Washington
“EVERETT, Wash. — A city in Washington has been flooded with complaints about what some voluptuous coffee shop workers are wearing — or not wearing — and is considering forcing them to cover up.”
These coffee shops are popping up all over the east coast and are drawing a lot of media attention. Many residents are furious and want stricter ordinances in place to remedy the situation, arguing that it is not family friendly. Others are fine with it and say, If you don’t like it don’t go to the coffee shop. It looks like the issue is polarized and it is going to be a battle for the courts.
Truckers Love Dunkin’ Donuts Coffee
“Dunkin’ Donuts had a whopping 43 percent of the trucker love, based on 282 responses to Atlas’ annual survey. McDonald’s came in second, with 21 percent of the vote. Starbucks was third at 20 percent (down from 30 percent last year.)”
Is this really that big of a surprise? Now I am not one for stereotyping but did anyone really think the majority of truckers first choice as a pit stop would be Starbucks? I personally know a few truckers and they are the guys that will go to Starbucks (or another “premium” coffeehouse) because their wife wants a white mocha. Then they stand at the register with their arms crossed and say, “None of this froofy stuff for me, we are here for her.” Now obviously this is not everyone because 20 percent of truckers do go to Starbucks but with factors like the economy in play and Starbucks raising their prices yet again it’s no wonder more truckers are taking the shift towards something a little more economical.
Dunn Bros. Coffee’s New President
“Dunn Bros. Coffee Franchising Inc. has promoted Chief Financial Officer Kim Plahn to the position of president, the company announced Tuesday.”
Dunn Bros has been in business since 1987 and has the majority of it’s stores in Minneapolis where one of their main competitors is Caribou Coffee. Dunn Bros is hopeful that this move will help them take their business to the next level and give them the edge they need in a down economy. I guess time will tell who will come out ahead in the fast changing world of specialty coffeehouses.

People love to complain about ridiculous things sometimes. What’s wrong with women wearing a bikini? What do they think they will see when they go to the beach?
The problem is the baristas are hanging out the windows of the coffee stands, you don’t have to go there to be bothered by it. You can be driving down the highway and see them. There are tons in WA State. And not only do they wear bikinis but they have taken to wearing their bras.
I think it is sad that coffee has succumbed to this type of “marketing.” It should be about the coffee and the skill of the barista; not what they are or are not wearing. I certainly would not take my family to a place like that. Apparently the “industry” has concluded that most coffee drinkers are male, or this would not have the momentum it seems to have.
As far as the truckers are concerned, I am with them. I am not a trucker, but have always preferred Dunkin Donuts coffee to Starbucks. What I prefer above both, however, is the small, family owned and operated coffee shop that is about the coffee. The issue here is not that different from the bikinis; it has come to be about every issue except the coffee and its preparation and serving.
Come on, if you want coffee go to the coffee shop, if you want half naked servers, go to Hooters (at least it is indoors and everyone has a choice).
Coffee sells itself, it doesn’t need women in pasties serving it to get it sold. Where are the morals???? The coffee shops have glass windows to intice men to look and want to stop by. One place even offers car washing and has male baristas on a couple of days. Seriously what is wrong here? Again coffee sells it’s self.
I think its sexy, wish we had them in NY, coffee prolly isn’t too great though , Dunkin coffee is always to hot and starbucks gives you the service for those that need a specific cup of coffee try explaining that to the immigrant at dunkin doughnuts…..
