Overview

This is a tasting of a flavored coffee in a k-cup brewer with cream and sugar. The reason I went that route this time is because of some feedback I have been getting on YouTube over the past few weeks. I also paired it next to almonds to try to accentuate  the almond flavor.

Coffee & Description

Gloria  Jean’s Swiss Chocolate Almond

Sweet and smooth with milk chocolate and marshmallow notes.

Overall Rating

My favorite color is that shade of blue that exists on a partly cloudy day, right on the edge of a thick cloud. The cloud has to be far enough away from the sun and thick enough to dull the light coming through it so as to not mute the blue of the sky. It’s a color that I can barely look away from. It is the color of my wife’s eyes.

Hi enjoyed your review, I have to agree flavored coffees just don’t taste authentic to me and the cream and sugar do mask the chemical aftertaste, but not enough in my opinion. I usually drink my coffee with non fat half and half or 1% milk and no sugar. i do want to try the Mudslide coffee you rated previously as I do like the chocolate and coffee pairing . As for non dairy creamers, I’m over my brief infatuation as I notice a play doh like after taste with all flavors now.

I hear you on both counts. Though there is the occasional flavored coffee that can surprise you. I have also been talking with a company that thinks they can solve this problem. Should be fun to see.

I grew up in Wisconsin (America’s Dairy land) so I guess everything should be better with cream. I’m just too much of a coffee purist to want to put cream in it. If I were to do that I would just have some hot chocolate (with or without the almonds). It just seems to me that I should not have to (or even want to) mask the flavor of my coffee.

qotd? I’m not sure I have one favorite color. My favorite depends on what it is. Black for a car (because my first car was a black Mustang fastback). Green and gold for sports because I’m a Packer fan. Red or black for my wife’s dress, hazelnut for my espresso, and Black for my coffee.

I guess I never thought of it like that Neil. I think I might have a few favorite colors for different reason as well. Obviously one of them has to be brown. :)

I’m an absolute girly-girl, so my favourite colour is pink. It makes me feel happy when I see it, and it’s just one of those fun colours. I love it!

  5. I’m with Neil on this one. Black coffee is “flavored” to me; the origin’s natural flavors. If I’m craving something sweeter, I’d rather drink hot chocolate or a chai latte.

qotd- My favorite color is sage green because it’s so calming.

Nuances in flavor can be so distinctive sometimes it really reminds you have that flavor literally doesn’t it?

It’s nice to see you doing pairings again! They always seem to make things a little more interesting. I agree with you and everyone else about cream and sugar. The subtle flavors in coffee are what make it so enjoyable and exciting.

qotd? My favorite color is blue. I have no idea why, but it’s been my favorite for as long as I can remember. There’s something comforting about it to me.

There’s nothing like a good cup of coffee. I like mine black, though I’m not sure that’s why black is my favorite color. I’m going with it anyway.

Nearly every single time, I do not like flavored coffee – too weak of a coffee to begin with and the flavors are too artificial and sweet – but there is one that I not only would drink, but will take the time to even make iced coffee out of and that is Green Mountain Island Coconut (their seasonal coffee, not the one with added chocolate or cream flavor). Just toasted coconut flavor. In the middle of a New England winter, just brewing some is therapy in itself and I am basking in the islands. I prepare it with a bit cream and a tiny bit of cane sugar (trying to wean myself off of sugar in my coffee), but it makes a wonderful summer iced coffee.
