Brazil Yellow Bourbon

Right when I opened the bag of Brazil Yellow Bourbon from Rocketfuel Coffee a huge cloud of aroma enveloped my nose. I was stunned with the overwhelming flowery aroma with a hint of something I could not immediately put my finger on. Then it hit me, Lemon Meringue Pie! Immediately it brought me back to a moment in my childhood when my dad offered me a piece while we were hanging out in the kitchen, more on that in the video below.

If the coffees aroma wasn’t enough the flavor was pretty shocking. The first thing I noticed was the bright lemon acidity with a huge amount of sweetness and a delightful nuttiness on the mid palate. The thing that caught me off guard was how dry of an aftertaste this coffee had. The dryness wasn’t expected but with it came a very welcomed clean finish. I would without a doubt recommend this coffee to any type of coffee drinker.

There is some really good information, which we will cover in the video, about where this coffee comes from and how it is processed on Rocketfuel’s website.

  • Sounds like a very interesting coffee….I always hear the pros mention that a coffee has a “dry” mouthfeel. It seems like This Brazil Yellow Bourbon is the one to try if you’re not sure what that is.

qotd — I’m not a huge lemon meringue pie fan. If I’m having pie, then pumkpin is the best for my money. But that’s not to say I don’t love a juicy, lemon-y acidic coffee.

Great video Jason! I’m so used to seeing the review videos that it does seem like something is missing when you just do a “text” review…

  • I missed the video! Glad you added one.

The main reason I come to your site (and not coffeegeek.com/ etc as much) is the human element you add! I really like the community, live show, and the video reviews.

    Keep it rockin!

  • just found you and love the video element. much better than just a written review. coffee in so many ways shows how we can have sustainable business models. good for the earth, people and business.
    thanks

  • I liked the article last week, I am hard of hearing and usually have to rely a little on lipreading to help me understand what you say. (I love your reviews, though, so it’s worth it.)

Regarding lemon meringue pie. I like it, but it lacks both chocolate and peanut butter, my two favorite dessert ingredients, so I rarely have it.

  • Yummm I want some please!!!!!

  • as soon as i get my next paycheck, this will be the first thing i buy! Though i have to admit, i’ll probably go with the yirgacheffe, because that’s where my favorite coffee always comes from.

  • The Yellow Bourbon sounds great. I have always loved lemon meringue pie. I would request it instead of birthday cake! Key lime is nothing to turn your nose up at either.

  • Jason, any chance of getting a coffee that tastes like Coconut Cream pie? If so, I’m sold! I really like the video and how you explain what you’re tasting. I have allergies and so my palate is pretty dull but after your review of this coffee, I think it might be a strong enough flavor, that I could enjoy it.

  • Lemon meringue pie aroma? My mouth is watering, and I don’t even like pie.

  • i love coffee! so i think i love your show! woot! great review and video!

  • I love sampling various coffees.
The subtle differences make me feel like I’m in a James Rollins adventure.
If you come across a fine strain of coffee bean that will allow me to bath in the luxurious swell of brew…and not worry about those hard to reach places. Well…now that’s what I’ll call a fine cup of coffee.
Very cool blog you have. I’ll definitely be revisiting..and…if you play your card’s right you big coffee-teasing dude…might even grab your RSS feed for automatic coffee fun.
Take care, my bean buddy. Casey
