My Experience
Written by Allan Coffee
This place is more known for its bagels than it’s coffee but I still went here for a little change from the usual joints. I go to Starbucks, Peet’s and It’s A Grind on a regular basis. As I walked up to the store I noticed that there were a lot people with dogs. Maybe it was a once a week thing or maybe dogs are welcomed there, I don’t know. Now, to the good stuff. I went in thinking I would get a bagel and a coffee. So, I stood in line looking at my choices for both. I looked at what was left of the bagels, and it was sadly disappointing. Then I looked over at what they had for coffee choices. It went: Coffee of the Day, Cappuccino, Mocha, White Mocha and Macchiato. Another disappointing menu of choices. Now, I had reached the front and the guy looks at me and says “What can I get you?” So I asked, “well, I was wondering if you could make the hot drinks cold?” He answered, “What do you mean?” “Well, can you make a Hot White Mocha an ICED White Mocha?” Now, I was getting a little flustered. He answers with “Well, I don’t know. Lemme ask someone” He turns around mumbles something to another employee and turns back to me “Well, I guess we can. Did you want the mocha?” “yeah, that would be great” I answered. Phew, that was WAY too much work for something so simple. He then turns to his register, hits a few buttons and says i owe him $3.20. OK, no problem heres my card. Now, I don’t about you guys but im pretty sure everyone has seen a Visa card, now to this poor bloke it was like a new world. It took him 5 tries to realize that the card he was swiping was turned the wrong way. We completed the transaction and I went and took my place at a table to wait.
As I sat there, I looked around. To my left were the Airpots where they had there coffee and tea and hot cocoa. I then started getting even more worried about my precious coffee behind the counter. (Another weird thing, he never took my name. just assumed that I was the only Iced White Mocha guy in the house. Which, now looking back at it, I was.) As I am sitting there, he looks over the counter makes eye contact with me and gives me the good old “head nudge”, as if saying hi! I take that as my drink is up. So I stand up, get my drink, and I’m holding it at the top of the cup, styrofoam cup that is. I walk out not thinking anything really except that I’m quite content that now I’ve got coffee. I get back to my friends house and start drinking my Iced White… Holy Crap!!! This thing is….nasty! I kept drinking though, my addiction was far greater than my instincts at this moment. Then all-of-a-sudden, it hits me, HOT mocha… So I take off the lid and start dissecting my drink. The conclusion i came to was that they made a HOT White Mocha then threw some ice on top. Well, needless to say I threw it out.
I would have to say that I’ll probably never go back to this place ever again. Customer service was poor, atmosphere was poor, and the quality of drink, well we all know where i stand on that one.

Allan, sorry for your hopefully forgettable experience. I don’t anticipate being in Bakersfield any time soon, but if I am I know where I will not be going for coffee. It seems almost amazing in this day and age that there are places that are that out of touch with their own market and their own marketing.
One more reason why my preference is my own home and my own barista skills. At least then if the product is terrible and I feel compelled to leave a tip regardless it is I who benefit. Kind of makes it a win-win situation.
I am sorry you had such a bad experience, Allan. It was great to see an article written by you. I had no idea Jason Coffee had other “coffee talent” in the family. I hope to see another article written by you. Hopefully, it will be a more enjoyable experience!!!
I’ve had someone do that with Chai Tea on me before. They made the hot version with milk and threw in icecubes. Ugh. It was horrible. The milk separated with the melted ice cubes. Why in the world they couldn’t use cold milk is beyond me. Common sense would said that would of been easier in the end. Indigo
There’s nothing worse than getting a crappy cup of coffee when you need it the most.
LOL, after the comment about the dogs I kept waiting for a realization that the place was actually meant to cater to the dogs with various dog treats and not really meant for human consumption.
@Indigo –
yeah its crazy what people will do. just wont crass there mind! haha
@Candle Anne –
Yeah, and even then I wouldnt put it pass the dogs to look away from it. It definitely isn’t supposed to be consumed by humans. hahaha…
Sucks To Be The Shop That Got Reviewed, Also Sucks To The Coffee World, I Feel That If U Can’t Serve Good Coffee Drinks U Shouldn’t Be In Business, I Mean Coffee Has Had A Bad Rep As Being Bitter, Strong, & Nasty. With The Hard Work Of The Specialty Industry We Have Managed To Restore Coffee To What It’s Original Intents Were, To Have A Good Drink, While Taking The Time To Enjoy Life, Family, N Friends. It Is Because OF The Lack Of Passion For This Great Beverage, The Coffee Name Continues To Suffer, If It Doesn’t You Have The Makeup Artist That Totally Disguise Coffee By Adding So Many Other Things, That It Just Takes The Taste & Flavor For What Real Coffee Is Suppose To Be. Coffee Is Good If Prepared The Right Way As It’s Good For You without The Add Ons, Once U Prepared Bad Coffee, Or Add Things To It I No Longer Consider It Coffee~ Coffee Is Good!
