My Experience
At around 11 am as I walked in the front door I was greeted by a young lady behind the counter with a smile. There were no other customers to be seen. Though, given the time of day this was not surprising. I order a 16 oz coffee, double espresso and a bagel with cream cheese at the recommendation of my barista. There were 10 different self serve coffees to choose from, I chose Kenya. Moments later a less than enthused but still polite young man handed me my double espresso. I sat down next to the fireplace with my coffee, espresso and laptop (they have free wifi). As I listened to the relaxing music and glanced at the inviting environment the barista delivered my bagel and espresso to my table. The bagel was warm and delicious. The espresso was burnt/old tasting with a very bitter bite. The coffee was good and had a floral aroma with fruity overtones. As I sat, catching up on twitter and emails, I saw an elderly man come in and sit at a table. The young lady that greeted me walked over and delivered coffee to his table and stood and talked to him, for what had to of been at least 10 minutes. As people started coming in for lunch, there was a small stirring of about 10 people, it was obvious that they were regular customers and felt at home in this environment. After the lunch rush I started to clean up my table in order to leave and the barista came over and helped me.

French Press is just coffee in the pot, put on boiling water, after a while, push the press down and enjoy the coffee!
I’ve never been to the It’s A Grind in Overland Park, but the chain (in general) is one of my all-time favorite coffee shop chains! I spent many, many hours in the It’s A Grind in Columbia, Missouri studying! Their coffee was delicious and their cold espresso-based beverages were the best (iced lattes and iced mochas). The baristas knew my friends and I (because we frequented the place) and eventually became really chummy with us and familiar with our drink choices! I now live in Minnesota and WISH I had an It’s a Grind nearby where I could hang out, get free Wi-Fi and enjoy a delicious drink every now and then.
I’m not a big flavored coffee girl, but the It’s a Grind Winter Blend is one of my favorite cold-weather coffees, especially around the holidays! This really made me miss It’s a Grind!
Thanks for the review!
that’s great Emily, I am glad you enjoyed the review. thanks for reading and the great comment.
I don’t spend a lot of time at coffee shops as I am a home roaster who also has a good quality grinder (Nuova Simonelli) and espresso machine (Rancilio Silvia), but I sometimes wonder how much “culture” I miss.
I guess coffeecupnews.org IS MY COFFEE CULTURE!
